Oevaali Art Gallery shows at Singapore Art Week 2026
Maldivian art to show at Singapore Art Week 2026.
Oevaali Art Gallery presented a curated exhibition of Maldivian contemporary art during Singapore Art Week, marking a subtle yet significant moment for cultural exchange between the Maldives and the region.
With a focus on painting, the exhibition brought together works that reflect on memory, identity, and place – central themes shaped by the rhythms and geographies of island life in the Maldives. Through layered textures and intimate narratives, the artists explored how personal and collective histories are intertwined with the sea, migration, and environmental change
Presented on a Singapore stage, the exhibition served as an important introduction of Maldivian art to new audiences. It not only highlighted the depth and diversity of contemporary practices emerging from the Maldives, but also fostered new and overdue dialogues.
By situating Maldivian voices within a broader regional arts platform, the exhibition encouraged exchange, connection and a deeper appreciation of shared yet distinct cultural narratives across South Asia’s evolving contemporary art landscape.
Singapore Art Week runs till 31st January 2026.
